It’s been a while yes I know and I apologize for not doing any reviews in a while I was waiting for something to grab my attention and, oh did this lovely show grab me…. Right by the short and curlies and refused to let go. This review will be spoiler free and will only go in depth on my feelings and opinions on the show. Hopefully I can get the other nerds to join me in a full breakdown review of this great show.

“The Boys” is a satirical irreverent look at what the world would be like if superheroes were real and among us. The superheroes in this show are far from perfect as they lead greedy self centered lives that are often full of habits, hardships, and hangups. The heroes are worshiped and adored and held in the highest esteem, but as you will find out from watching they are far from perfect and often live downright messy, mistake filled lives corrupted by their celebrity status, Mistakes that are often seen and felt by the less super inclined citizens of the world.

This show brings some great actors to the screen to bring forth some great characters. The show is kind of situated around the main character Hughie Campbell who is played by Dennis Quaid and Meg Ryan's son Jack Quaid most known for his part as Marvel in The Hunger Games franchise. His character Hughie is an A.V. salesmen who after losing his girlfriend to a tragic event involving a super, gets dragged along for one hell of a ride with a deranged narcissistic man named Billy Butcher on a one man mission of vengeance to make every “supe" pay for their crimes to humanity.

Billy Butcher is played by none other than Karl Urban. He brings the character directly from the pages of the comics and right into the little screen in a way I didn't think was possible. The show also follows  a sub plot of a new young naive superhero that joins the Seven (the most prestigious group of superheroes) not knowing what she would be getting into. Annie “Starlight" January is played by actress Erin Moriarty who definitely brings a wholesome naivety to the role.

There are major shock and awe moments throughout the show that keep you on the edge of your seat and we’re given just enough to not get stale and expect it. The character development and revelations also play a pivotal role in the development of the show and drive it along the twisted winding road that is its plot.

This show is definitely worth watching I would say I loved the show and that this is one you should most definitely not pass up. It is by far one of the best shows I have seen in the last couple years. Just a little warning before starting this show, it’s not for the faint of heart and definitely not for your children. It is geared towards adults and instead of following the Disney/Marvel formula of wholesome goodness this show locks the hubcaps and takes it for a rocky twisted off road ride full of sex, drugs, and rock and roll and spoilers…….. anal explosions.
